An Invasion By Any Other Name: The Kremlin’s Dirty War in Ukraine

 


One Ukrainian soldier was killed on Monday by a sniper near Maryinka, and two more were wounded in Mariupol sector in the town of Talakivka. While the Ukrainian military reported fewer ceasefire violations over the previous day, they took place across the front and some of the fighting was quite serious.

Ukraine Crisis Media Center reports that the fighting was particularly heavy near Avdeyevka, in the Donetsk sector:

In Donetsk sector, militants conducted three attacks yesterday. They were firing at Nevelske with light weapons in the morning for 20 minutes. In the evening, attacked Shakhta Butovka position and Avdiivka’s industrial area with machine guns, grenade launchers, and mortars, firing a total of 25 mortar rounds. Ukrainian forces were compelled to return fire.

Ministry of Defense: Militants continue mortaring Avdiivka | UACRISIS.ORG

In Luhansk sector, Russian proxies conducted eight attacks yesterday, half of these involved mortars. The largest number of provocations was recorded along the Bakhmut road. Militants shelled Krymske with mortars twice about 18:00 and 20:00, firing five rounds in total. Later Russia-backed militants also used mortars, as well as grenade launchers and small arms, in Triokhizbenka and Novotohshkivske.
