Ukraine Reports 22 Soldiers Wounded, 1 Killed, After 116 Attacks, With Grad Rockets And Heavy Artillery Used

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reports that one Ukrainian soldier was killed and 22 wounded yesterday.

According to MOD spokesman Colonel Andriy Lysenko, one soldier was killed and three wounded by an explosive device in the village of Sartana, just outside Mariupol.

Nine servicemen were wounded and two concussed in Avdeyevka, northeast of Donetsk, while another was wounded and a another concussed in nearby Kamenka and Troitskoye. To the west of Donetsk, one soldier was wounded in Maryinka. In the south, near Mariupol, one soldier was wounded by a mine in Vodyanoye, and another three in Gnutovo and Lebedinskoye.

The Ukrainian military claims that Russia-backed forces conducted 116 attacks yesterday, using heavy artillery, mortars and Grads.

According to the military, Russia-backed forces used BM-21 Grad multiple-launch rocket systems to bombard Ukrainian positions near Vodyanoye, while tanks fired on Gnutovo. Mortars were also reportedly used against positions in both areas, as well as Novotroitskoye, on the highway between Mariupol and Donetsk.

Other attacks, with grenade launchers or small arms, were reported near Shirokino, Starognatovka and Lebedinskoye. BMP infantry fighting vehicles reportedly opened fire near Gnutovo and Novogrigoryevka.

To the west of separatist-held Donetsk city, Krasnogorovka was, the military claims, shelled with mortars, while Maryinka came under grenade-launcher and small-arms fire.

To the north, 120 and 82-mm mortars were reportedly used against Avdeyevka, Peski and the Butovka mine, as well as Novoluganskoye and Zaytsevo near Gorlovka.

Meanwhile the separatist-backed head of the Gorlovka municipal administration, Ivan Prikhodko, claimed today that two houses in a separatist-controlled area of Zaytsevo had been damaged by Ukrainian shelling yesterday.

In the Lugansk region, the Ukrainian military reports that Lisichansk, a city well behind the front line and long considered relatively safe, was shelled with 152-mm artillery. The same weapons were also reportedly used against Novozvanovka, while mortar shells fell near Novoaleksandrovka, Novotoshkovskoye, Novozvanovka, Katerinovka, Krymskoye and Malinovoye.

Further shelling was reported in the Donetsk area this afternoon:

#Donetsk 16:39 Kiev time: periodically booming in the north.

#Makeyevka 16:50 salvos from somewhere near the ringroad
Oh it’s loud now #Avdeyevka
Very loud in the north. Salvos from heavy weapons practically non-stop.

#Donetsk 15 minutes ago in the north could hear the rumble of artillery and something lighter. It calmed down, now started up again.
